3D Carving Wax

Program #4: 3D Carving Wax is a 1‑day, high‑intensity hand‑skills workshop focused entirely on three‑dimensional wax work for jewelry. This is an ideal starting point if you are new to wax or a valuable refresher if you want to sharpen your carving control in a single, concentrated session.

We begin with tool handling and safety. You will become comfortable with saws, gravers, burs, blades, and heat tools, learning how to hold and guide them so they cut cleanly instead of chattering or digging. Proper posture, secure work‑holding, and safe use of heat are emphasized from the start, so you can work confidently in your own studio later.

Once you are in control of the tools, we move into 3D wax carving basics. You will practice building forms in the round-rings, bezels, and simple sculptural elements-shaping and refining them from every angle. We discuss wall thickness, undercuts, and support so the design you see in wax will cast cleanly and wear comfortably in metal.

We then explore creating hollow wax models, a key technique for lightweight yet substantial pieces. You will learn methods for carving interiors, venting, and maintaining even thickness so the final jewelry feels balanced on the hand or wrist rather than heavy and bulky.

Finally, we cover wax spruing and assembly. You will assemble components, attach sprues for casting, and understand how placement affects metal flow and the quality of the finished piece. All work is done by hand, with supplies provided, in a small class environment.

By the end of the day, you will have a clear, repeatable approach to wax carving you can use back home-whether your bench is in Jupiter, Florida, USA or elsewhere-to design and build more original, three‑dimensional jewelry forms with confidence.
